TRADITIONAL VALUES – A MODERN APPROACH
The McGuire Cooley Team is humbled by the countless privileges and blessings we have, and in that spirit we contribute much of our time and money to many charities and deserving organizations in the local community and beyond because we believe strongly in giving back. The following (in no particular order!) are near and dear to our member’s hearts for many reasons, and we love that we can share them with you. If you feel led, please know that all of these organizations rely on donations from the public to survive and accomplish their missions, and they would greatly appreciate your support.
Backpacks For Kids – The Greater Tulsa Association of Realtors Supports Backpacks For Kids, a group that comes together to assemble a huge project each year that results in hundreds of underprivileged Tulsa Area children being given school clothes, shoes, underwear, socks and toiletries for the first day of school. Amber is a multi-year volunteer for the committee that arranges this project.
John 3:16 Mission – John 3:16 provides a wide range of ministry programs that make a significant impact on the lives of the homeless, hungry and at-risk in Tulsa. Deborah and her husband Mike donate monthly to the mission, which was founded in 1952 and has changed the lives of countless people for these last 6 decades.
American Heart Association – Jessica’s favorite charity is one she loves for a very good reason – The American Heart Association. Jessica has been diagnosed with SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia) and so has one of her daughters, Bridie. It’s a treatable heart condition that means an extra opening in the heart causes an arrhythmia and creates a rapid heart rate. She and Bridie are doing great these days, and were even featured in a campaign with the Oklahoma Heart Institute. You may still see their billboard around town!
Crossover Community Impact – Crossover Community Impact is a Christian organization located in North Tulsa that is committed to restoring the community through reconciliation, love and justice. The Crossover Preparatory Academy is our particular focus, and as Coldwell Banker Select has embraced this worthy cause, so too have all members of the McGuire Cooley Team.
Muddy Paws – Pets Helping People – A wonderful organization founded in Tulsa that is now being used as a model in prisons around the country, Muddy Paws – Pets Helping People trains women of criminal backgrounds to become dog groomers and vet techs, and teaches them a trade that will last a lifetime. The success rate of graduates is out of this world, and in 7 years the program has graduated almost 200 women who have gone on to be contributing members of society. Muddy Paws at 56th & Lewis is the working training salon where customer’s dogs are groomed and boarded. Amber has been a board member of Pets Helping People for 3 years.
St. Jude Research Hospital – One of the most beloved charities in the world, St. Jude works to provide free medical care for children with cancer, as well as free lodging for their families while the patients are undergoing treatments. It is leading the fight in research against cancer, and is one of Jennifer’s favorite programs to donate to. Keep an eye out for the St. Jude dream home every year in the Tulsa area too – for a $100 donation you are entered into a chance to win a beautiful new construction home!
Oklahoma Alliance for Animals – Oklahoma Alliance for Animals mission is dedicated to reducing pet overpopulation, encouraging responsible pet ownership, and the promotion of humane treatment of animals. They believe very strongly in educating the public about how to properly care for and treat animals. They host the very fun annual Woofstock where you can bring your furchild to an outdoor event with all kinds of goodies! Cindy is a volunteer with the program, and even fosters adoptable dogs at her home from time to time.
Send Me International – A former Coldwell Banker Select agent Parfait Karekezi established Send Me International as a way to help provide for his native Rwanda that is still struggling with years of genocide and turmoil. Coldwell Banker agents have banded together and donated thousands of dollars over the last few years that have gone toward purchasing hundreds of solar powered lights for families living in refugee camps. The light provides desperately needed safety in the dangerous camps, and they have helped countless people.
Vision For Children – Created by Dr. Tom Vanderpool in Jenks nearly 10 years ago , Vision For Children is an organization that provides vision care for the medically deprived children of the Bahamas. Dr. Vanderpool visits the islands several times a year administering eye exams and then returns with eyeglasses made with each child’s prescription. Without his help, these kid’s schooling suffers, and even their health – he found a brain tumor in one child recently. Amber and her husband Jeremiah are volunteers and contributors to this program.
Endangered Ark Foundation – Hidden away in southeast Oklahoma is this sanctuary that is the second largest home for Asian elephants in North America. The Endangered Ark Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the future of these animals, as well as providing a home for “retired” circus animals. Jennifer donates regularly to this organization.
Day Center for the Homeless– The Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless goes above and beyond for each individual who comes through the door by assisting clients with case management, healthcare, basic hygiene needs and resource education. Volunteers do everything from greet and answer phones at the front desk, to help individuals at the center apply for jobs online. Cindy cooks along with her church group and serves food to guests several times a year.
